World Environment Day 2025 :
Progressive Mind Welfare Society Marks World Environment Day with a Free Plant Distribution Drive in Bhopal
Bhopal, 8 June 2025 – In a thoughtful initiative to champion environmental awareness and community involvement, the Progressive Mind Welfare Society, a reputed non-governmental organisation (NGO) based in Bhopal, organised a large-scale Free Plant Distribution Drive to celebrate World Environment Day 2025. The event took place at two high-traffic locations — in front of Aura Mall and near Shapura Lake — and drew participation from enthusiastic citizens, environmentalists, and youth volunteers.
The event, guided by the collective efforts of society members, aimed to sensitise the public on the importance of environmental conservation and encouraged people to actively participate by planting trees in their homes, schools, and neighbourhoods. Although World Environment Day falls on 5th June, the drive was held on Sunday, 8th June, to allow greater community involvement over the weekend.
Purpose and Vision
The campaign’s primary goal was to motivate individuals, especially the younger generation, to adopt eco-conscious habits and contribute to the fight against climate change. Tree plantation, the society believes, is a powerful, accessible, and long-term solution to counter air pollution, reduce carbon footprints, and enhance biodiversity in urban settings.
Through this initiative, Progressive Mind Welfare Society sought not only to distribute plants but to instil a mindset of continued environmental responsibility.
Ms. Mayuri Saxena, President of the Society and a government-accredited journalist, expressed during the event:
“Our planet needs action, not just intention. Every tree we plant today is a promise of a greener tomorrow. We are not just sharing saplings — we are nurturing hope, responsibility, and a love for nature that must grow in every home.”
Event Highlights
The plant distribution began at 5:30 PM on Sunday, 8th June, and was simultaneously conducted at Aura Mall, Bittan Market and Shapura Lake. These locations were strategically selected for their visibility and accessibility. Society members, with the help of volunteers, set up booths and information desks to guide visitors and provide planting advice.
Over 1,200 saplings were distributed free of cost, including species such as:
Neem
Tulsi
Guava
Mango
Ashoka
Peepal
Rose
Curry Leaf
Bougainvillaea
Hibiscus
Each plant was chosen for its local adaptability, ecological value, and in many cases, medicinal or air-purifying properties. Visitors were given guidance on how to care for the plants, including watering routines, placement, and natural pest control methods. Cloth bags were also distributed to discourage the use of plastic and promote eco-friendly alternatives.
Public Participation
The event received a heartening response from the public. People from all walks of life — families, students, working professionals, and the elderly — came forward to take part. Many clicked photos with their chosen saplings and pledged to nurture them at home, school, or office.
Children, in particular, showed immense curiosity, joyfully picking out plants and promising to take care of them. The overall atmosphere was one of community, optimism, and shared responsibility.
Local influencers, eco clubs, and online content creators joined in, amplifying the event’s message through social media and helping it reach a wider audience.
Gratitude and Contributions
The Progressive Mind Welfare Society expressed deep appreciation to all who supported and participated. Special thanks were given to:
Ms. Pooja Upadhyay – Vice President
Dr. Sanjula Chaturvedi – Treasurer

Upcoming activities under this campaign include:
Regular plant distribution drives
Workshops on environmental awareness
School and park plantation projects
Education on waste segregation and composting
A “Plant Tracker” digital initiative, inviting citizens to share photos and growth updates of their saplings — with top contributors to be honoured in 2026
The aim is to build a strong, ongoing connection between people and nature through collective responsibility and simple daily actions.
